Detran-SP Launches Carnival Road Safety Awareness Campaign

The São Paulo State Traffic Department (Detran-SP) launches its latest awareness campaign on Friday, extending until Ash Wednesday, focusing on “For a better Carnival on the street, on the avenue, and on the road.” Recognizing the growing scale of Carnival in São Paulo, the initiative stresses heightened caution on streets, avenues, and highways.

This year, Detran-SP adopts a samba-themed narrative, collaborating with symbolic schools and blocks to prioritize life. Partnering with São Paulo Traffic Safety League, schools like Mocidade pela Direção Independente and Unidos pela Segurança nas Ruas aim to raise awareness about traffic accidents’ primary causes: alcohol consumption, speeding, and phone use while driving.

The campaign spreads through radio, TV, internet, and urban fixtures statewide, featuring films, spots, social media banners, and advertisements at street clocks and bus stops. Awareness messages will be distributed at Metro stations and toll plazas on the Blue, Red, and Green lines in collaboration with Artesp. Inspection operations will provide drivers with awareness materials.

In preventive measures, “samba schoolsVem Vem de Metrô and Unidos Contra a Dengue promote public transport for Carnival while raising awareness about dengue risks. The Integrated Safe Driving Operation will double inspections statewide compared to 2023, emphasizing zero tolerance for alcohol and adherence to traffic laws, highlighting every life’s value.

Detran-SP’s Director-President, Eduardo Aggio, underscores the importance of awareness campaigns and inspections in fostering behavioral change and promoting road safety, reflecting the government’s commitment to citizen safety.
